The organization focuses on providing community service and providing professional and educational opportunities. SSWO is dedicated to promoting the educational and professional needs of social work students and exemplifying social work ethics and values. The organization is operated by students with support of the UNK Social Work Program and its faculty. Organizational membership is open to all students who wish to join their peers in an informal setting where they can implement the knowledge and skills they gained through social work education and benefit the community.
Phi Alpha offers membership to social work students, faculty and practitioners. The National Council of Phi Alpha, the organization’s policy making body, meets once a year at the Council of Social Work Education’s (CSWE’s) annual program meeting conference. Each chapter has one voting representative on The National Council.
Election of officers will be held at the end of the Spring semester, or at the end of the Fall semester should any of the officers graduate or drop out that Fall semester. Student has achieved a minimum overall grade point average of 3.5 based on a 4.0 scale. Membership dues for Phi Alpha Honor Society are $60, to be submitted by check with the membership application. If the fee prohibits you from applying for membership, contact the faculty sponsor to discuss your situation. The mission of Social Work in Action is to engage and empower natural helpers to participate in community outreach and social action within the CSU campus and the Fort Collins community.
In addition, the SWC affords a support system for students and an opportunity to address Departmental and University-wide concerns. Furthermore, the Social Work Club provides students with information relating to their field such as current information and literature on organizations, agencies, and other related areas. The exact goals and purposes of the Social Work Club for the current year are determined by the present year’s officers, class representatives, and the active members.
Through membership, students have the opportunity to learn more about the profession, get involved with humanitarian activities, and explore career choice for the future through networking with social workers in the community. Through engagement in the activities of the organization, students at the university benefit from diverse social connections, participation in teamwork, and the opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of the community. Along the way, the student strengthens the value of service, develops confidence as a leader, and enhances professional skills. Most college honor societies charge a one-time fee between $20 to $125 for lifetime membership.
You will gain knowledge of school values and procedures, and assist current and incoming students in understanding and navigating the social work program. Distinguished members have earned national or international recognition for their contributions to social work education, research or practice. Members of Phi Alpha Omicron Epsilon Chapter are required to complete at least four philanthropy hours per semester. Community services may be completed by participating in Phi Alpha sponsored philanthropy events or with an organization of your choice. We, the Student Association of Social Workers at the Metropolitan State University of Denver , are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others in our community while enhancing the student experience of our members. We strive as a group to bring a strong awareness to social justice through dedication, compassion, and integrity.
