Once accepted into the University, transfer students will be invited to an orientation session and encouraged subsequently to set up an appointment with a SSW academic advisor. Transfer students are expected to be majors in the program a minimum of two years and a summer in order to complete curricular requirements. Both pre-social work students and social work majors are encouraged to join the Social Work Student Association . The guiding principle of the SWSA is “Making a Difference in People’s Lives”.

To improve and further the goals and objectives of social work by encouraging objectivity and awareness of current developments and practices in the various fields of social work. Currently, there are 150 active chapters in the United States and overseas. Must have achieved an overall grade point average of 3.85 (on a 4.0 scale).

Dr. Eli DeHope The Active Minds is a mental health advocacy group that provides support and information to the West Chester University student population about the emotional needs of college students. Each year The Blues Society organizes and hosts a day devoted to mental health with helpful and informative programs for the students and community of West Chester. In addition, students are encouraged and supported to submit proposals to present at local and national social work conferences.

Officers are elected by the student body in scheduled elections. The Phi Alpha Honor Society invites students who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work to apply for membership. The purposes of a national honor society are to provide closer bonds among social work students and to promote humanitarian goals and ideals. Undergraduate and graduate students who meet eligibility requirements can become members of the SFA chapter of Phi Alpha, the national honor society for social workers. SFA’s chapter, Theta Omega, has been going strong since 1999 and is active in a variety of community service projects.

Before applying to transfer to Social Work, Temple students must attend a Change of Program session. These are explained on the College of Public Health web site under Academic Advising and Student Resources. Transfer applications will not be processed until the student attends the Change of Program session. Students will be notified of the decision regarding their request to change majors to Social Work in an e-mail from the university. Dean’s List – Each fall and spring semester, those undergraduates who have met the credit hour and academic criteria for their school or college are placed on the Dean’s List.
